The Xperia Z3 Compact is the mini version of Sony’s flagship device, the Xperia Z3. The device has been very well received, and if any device can stand up to the iPhone 6, which has also been enjoying a predominately positive response from the public. The iPhone 6 started breaking sale records in its debut weekend, as it comes with elements that made the iPhone line what it is, while making some changes that answered the main complaints from users piled up over the years. Let’s see if the device is as good as they say, and how it does against the Z3 Compact.
The Xperia Z3 Compact measures 127.3 x 64.9 x 8.6 mm and weighs 129 grams. Additionally, the device is IP68 certified as dustproof and waterproof for half an hour at 1 meter. The iPhone 6 measures 138.10 x 67 x 6.9 mm and weighs 129 grams, meaning that the two devices are equal in weight. In terms of thickness, the Z3 Compact proves to be thicker than Apple’s latest flagship.
The iPhone 6 comes with the biggest screen to ever be implemented on an iPhone device, except for its big brother, the iPhone 6 Plus. The iPhone 6 comes with a 4.7 inch display that uses the IPS LCD technology at 1334p resolution and 326 ppi pixel density. On the other hand, for the Z3 Compact we have a 4.6 inch display that uses the same technology, with a 1280p resolution and 319 ppi pixel density.
As per GSM Arena, we note that the Sony device has a Snapdragon 801 processing unit. The quad core processor comes with a 2.5 GHz clock speed, and is backed up by the Adreno 330 GPU. In terms of memory, the device has 2 GB of RAM, and 16 GB of storage space. The camera that is placed on the rear of the handset has 20.7 MP, and is accompanied by a 2.2 MP front facing camera. The battery that powers up the Z3 Compact has a total capacity of 2600 mAh, also being helped by the Android 4.4 KitKat.
The iPhone 6 stats were taken from the same source, and they indicate that the handset uses a 64-bit A8 processor, coupled with the M8 co-processor. The 1.4 GHz dual core chip has the support of 1 GB of RAM and comes in three storage space variants: 16, 64 and 128 GB. There is also a pretty good camera on the rear of the device, with only 8 MP, but a very well optimized OS and ecosystem that complement the hardware tremendously. The iPhone 6’s battery can sustain the device’s life for 14 hours on a 3G network. The operating system running the show here is Apple’s iOS8 of course.
On Amazon.con, the iPhone 6 has a starting price of about $800 for the 16 GB version, whereas the Z3 Compact has a price of about $510.
