Huawei P9 Review – A Revolutionary Device

Huawei P9

Huawei P9 is the newest flagship Chinese who hope to conquer the worldwide market. Will the giant Huawei convince Westerners that a Chinese phone deserves to stand alongside smartphones such as Samsung Galaxy S7 or iPhone 6S? Most likely, yes.

Huawei has managed in the last few years to take the face of highly experienced producers and to climb the global rankings to third place in terms of sales of smartphones. The company has always tried to bring something new, innovate, and in some times that went well.

Huawei P9 firstly addresses to photography enthusiasts, and the partnership with Leica is an important move, at least in terms of the statute. Huawei executives are aware of the Western public perception vis-a-vis to phones from China and hopes that it will change gradually as their smartphones are becoming increasingly better.

Huawei P9 - Introduction

Huawei P9 is a good high end device, but slightly weaker than the specs found in phones like Samsung Galaxy S7, LG G5 or HTC 10. It has a 5.2 inch display with full HD resolution under which hides a Kirin Hisilcon 955 processor and 3GB RAM. Its battery is 3,000 MAh, and charging is made via a USB port C. Storage is 32GB and there is also a microSD slot, Huawei P9 has a fingerprint sensor positioned on the back, and cameras are three (one of 8MP and two of 12MP), two of which are positioned on the back.

All these components are stacked in a container made of glass and metal, which only weighs 144 grams and has a thickness of only 7mm. Enough with the technical specifications, let's see the strengths of Huawei P9.

Huawei P9 - Pro Points

We'll start with design, for us is the first thing that attracts (or not) for a smartphone. Huawei P9 and design attracts us. It has a classic rectangular shape, revolutionary from this point of view. However, Chinese attention to detail makes it a very attractive smartphone. The face is covered by glass slightly curved edges and light can see some fine lines that break the monotony. Brushed aluminum back has a fine texture, pleasant to the touch and is observed around a silver lining "sculpted" for the unibody design. The cameras are placed on the top edge, but stands out thanks to a piece of glass covering the black strip with a Leica logo. The buttons are placed on the right edge, and the power has a special texture for you to find it easily. The phone is very compact, very pleasant to hold, but quite slippery. The feeling is a premium one from start to finish, and the Chinese have made sacrifices in this regard.

Autonomy is a major plus. We will make again a remark that perhaps you are accustomed. Huawei P9 my face all day with its battery, and we find that admirable. We constantly switched data, WiFi and location as the clock and headphones are connected via Bluetooth and brightness Auto keep always, never at a minimum. Huawei P9 is doing very well, and the average user probably could pull off two days of use out of it.

Huawei P9 is equipped with two cameras with different sensors. One of them is monochrome and the other is color. The images are combined by a special processor to provide stronger contrasts (thanks to black / white sensor) and intense colors. The effect is one of photo film. It has a special flair to every shot, especially if you use the B/W mode or the Vivid Colors. Photos have a fine grain and do an excellent job for sensors to detect light sources and to use them as well.

The result can be seen with the naked eye, and even if nighttime images have more noise, appear as if torn from movies or artistic productions.

Huawei P9 - Against Points

The interface is a clone of the iOS, from head to tail. It is a very successful clone, it's an interface we were familiar with and which responds well, but still remains a clone. Bloatware level is not great, but it would be appropriate to deal with originality and Huawei interface or, at least, to let Android's thoroughbred to do what it does best, ie to operate without reproaches.

Huawei P9 - Conclusion

Huawei P9 is a smartphone that borrows from the Chinese "tradition", but also from Western marketing. It is a well thought smartphone, fitted together, but which it seems to be hard to get past the "legacy" to Asian.
