Asus Eee Pad Slider – A Tablet with Fixed Keyboard

ASUS Eee Pad Slider is a tablet with very similar characteristics to those of the ASUS Transformer, but the QWERTY keyboard is not removable.

No ASUS tablet has not gone unnoticed. Each managed to break a corner of the tablet market.

Technical specifications are common to those found in most tablets on the market from Tegra 2 generation. Eee Pad Slider comes equipped with Nvidia Tegra platform 2, 1 GHz processor, capacitive Multi-Touch screen 10.1-inch IPS, 1 GB DDR2 RAM, 32GB flash memory and Android 3.0 Honeycomb (there can upgraded to Android 3.2 and hope to Android 4.0).

All ports are on the keyboard. The slider comes equipped with 1 x USB 2.0, 1 x Mini HDMI, 1 x Audio jack and microSD slot. The tablet also has 5 megapixel camera on the back, 1.2 megapixel on the front and the battery with autonomy of up to 8 hours.

I personally saw a office tablet in it, a new form of a netbook and less a tablet, practical and easy to use. It weighs 960g and has dimensions of 273 x 180.3 x 17.3 mm, so it is not in the patterns of the standard tablets.

I liked that the tablet is built well, demonstrates the robustness. The two halves are well linked and easy to handle. But we do not know how reliable the mechanism of attachment of the two parties is.

The keyboard seems a little cramped. The keys are tiny and a little hard to use if you have thick fingers, but still are well defined. There isn't a touchpad. I encountered something similar in Sony Vaio P.

The screen is similar to that found on ASUS Transformer. It is IPS type, has a 10.1 inch diagonally and has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. LED LCD is resistant at scratches and strokes. But better not try this at home. In the sliding mode, the screen is at a fixed angle from the base of about 130 degrees. We considered this a minus mode that restricts you.

In the performance chapter, Asus Eee Pad Slider has done well in both games and applications. Angry Birds can be played at an amazing quality, you can also watched movies in high quality on YouTube and work on office applications. You just need to sync your Gmail account and enjoy Internet without problems.

Autonomy is about 8 hours when the tablet is used continuously and can last several days in standby mode.

For 2012, ASUS has no plans yet on Asus Eee Pad Slider, so we still do not know if there is a new version improved. Currently Asus Eee Pad Slider can be found at a price of about $700, in white or brown.

Asus Eee Pad Slider is a good tablet, an interesting proposal from ASUS. It is easy to copy things, but hard to invent. Basically the Taiwanese manufacturer has demonstrated that it can innovate on the field. It could be the perfect solution for those who want a netbook, but it could not give up a tablet. Asus combines these ideas and implement them in the Eee Pad Slider.

Asus Eee Pad Slider strengths:

  •  The screen is one of the best I've seen;
  •  The keyboard proved extremely useful and don't have to take care of it. Is always below the screen when needed;
  •  Connectivity;
  •  The cover in resistant material, the size of the tablet;
  •  Good performance in office applications, multimedia and gaming (for Android).

Asus Eee Pad Slider weaknesses:

  •  The keyboard is slightly cramped and no touchpad;
  •  Battery life up to 8 hours;
  •  No 3G.
