Hewlett Packard is one brand that never goes unnoticed with whatever product it launches. We have witnessed the Dream Screen to the All-in-ones from this very same brand and have seen the intensity with which device their products. Joining their list is the latest 14” laptop, the HP G42-355.
But does this machine make it to the shore? Let’s find out.
A light weight 2.2 kg laptop, the G42 carries all the features a latest laptop should have and that too suiting the pocket of a normal buyer.
Design and Build Quality
With the 355, HP seems to have done the homework of making machines beautiful. A total eye-catcher, this machine comes with changeable multicolored covers which obviously sets it apart from all the other rivals in its segment. Not only it’s a fashion statement but a cool way to slam those scratches away. One thing you’ll notice is that the machine carrying the signature HP looks with the patterns on the keyboard and this exactly when one realizes that the build quality is maximized to perfection by Pit also has a matte surface that minimizes fingerprints so it stays cleaner.
A closer look will of course reveal the 14 inch LED screen (and we have witnessed the energy saving part now), multiple card slots, multiple USB ports, a VGA, HDMI and of course one Ethernet port along with outputs for headphones and microphones. A fine sound quality is already provided by embedded Altec Lansing speakers and a webcam with integrated microphone is there to make sure you have the best of talks over the net. The lightweight comes handy when you have to use the laptop while travelling or lying down on the bed with the machine over you. The experience on the keyboard and the mouse touch pad is essentially delightful, making it easy to get habitual with the laptop. The touch pad has a 2-way scroll support and has an integrated on-off button which is a total “what we need “feature for those in a hurry. The notebook keyboard is of course ergonomic with 101 keys and additionally having the home roll keys.
The wireless connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n that works pretty well in most conditions. The Bluetooth feature also lets you transfer files from any of your Bluetooth enabled devices.
This is the most anticipated section of any laptop review. As expected, HP as done well here too. Taking from the face, the 355 comes up preloaded with Windows 7 Home Basic with fair upgradable options for sure. Core i3 at 2.4GHz and the popular HM55 chipset make it a lucrative device to work upon. It has 3GB DDR3 RAM which is expandable to 8GB and a fair HDD space of 320GB. The optical drive is the light scribe DVD±R/RW with Double Layer Support. Weighing just about 2.2 Kg, it comes along with 6-cell Li-on battery which provides a fair back up of around 4hours for normal usage. The display resolution is the normal 1366X768 which is fair enough for entertainment purposes too as well as gaming usage. However, the laptop lacks in just one aspect which is integrated graphics, where it has the default Intel graphic accelerator. But when we come to the price which is reasonable everywhere, this con is not regretted for sure.
The HP G-42 355 is one definite pay off for every penny spent on it and can be marked as a good buy for a large section of consumers as HP is also known for fast after sales service in tier2 cities too. In short we’d say “Go buy it!!”
